ISG Student Paper Contest

Introduction:

The ISG Student Chapter, in collaboration with the Gerontechnology Journal, is pleased to announce a student paper contest. The aim of the contest is to encourage young researchers to submit their original scientific papers derived from their Master’s or Doctoral thesis research. This contest offers an opportunity for students to develop their writing skills, gain exposure in the field of Gerontechnology, and start their scientific career with a publication in a scientific journal. This paper contest will also serve as a selection method for the next ISG 2026 student presentation.

Eligibility:

  • Open to students who are members of ISG and non-members (gain membership by participating).
  • Papers should be based on the student’s Master’s or Doctoral thesis research and should be accompanied by an endorsement letter from their supervisors.
  • Manuscripts must align with the journal’s scope.

Paper Guidelines:

Papers must follow the author guidelines provided by the Gerontechnology Journal, available at:
https://isgj.gerontechnology.org/submissions/authorguidelines

  • Student papers are full research communications derived from Master’s or Doctoral thesis research and written by the student. (Author Guidelines § 3.4 “Student papers”)
  • The submission must be scientifically valid and lie within the scope of the journal.
  • The submission has not been previously submitted to other journals for publication.
  • Selected manuscripts will undergo peer review and receive extra guidance from editors and reviewing peers.

Selection Process:

  1. Pre-selection by Chapters: Each ISG chapter will conduct a pre-selection process to select up to 2 student papers to represent their chapter. The ISG chapters are as follows:
    • (a) Dutch-Flemish
    • (b) Japanese
    • (c) North America
    • (d) Francophone
    • (e) Taiwan
    • (f) Austrian German Swiss
    • (g) Brazilian
    • (h) Korean
    • (i) Hong Kong Great Bay Area
    • (j) Iberian
    • (k) Finnish
    Students who do not belong to a specific chapter can submit for the student chapter for pre-selection.
    Deadline: 31 October 2025
  2. Journal Selection: After the chapter pre-selection, the Gerontechnology Journal’s editorial board will review the submissions and determine the 8 students that will move on to the final contest.
    (Total: 8 students)
  3. Final contest: During ISG 2026, the 8 students will present their paper, and judges will determine the final winner.
    (Total: 1 student)

Awards:

  • Chapter selection [n=2/chapter]: Discount for ISG 2026 inscription
  • Journal selection [n=8]: Free open-access publication in the Gerontechnology journal
  • Final contest winner [n=1]: Travel grant + Free ISG 2026 inscription
