The Brazilian Gerontechnology Society was successfully launched by professor Carla da Silva Santana Castro as president during the congress from 16th till 18th November 2017. With conferences and lectures providing new insights on the challenges and opportunities for Gerontechnology in Brazil, research in graduate level in this subject, the development of products and equipment, robotics, digital technology, information and communication, among other topics. The excellent program also included several pre-conference short courses, conversation circles and cultural presentation. An ISG master class “Design for Ageing for students” was organized and Emeritus professor Annelies van Bronswijk presented her lecture “How to research or design for Gerontechnology” as the one Grandmaster of Gerontechnology. In addition, professor dr. Johannes Doll, vice president of the Brazilian Gerontechnology society gave a lecture on Research and innovation for a sustainable humanity while professor Helianthe Kort presented a lecture on Creating Healthy Environments. Both professor Doll and professor Kort were also invited as a key-note speaker at the conference. Marina Soares Bernardes MSc. won the Herman Bouma prize for best poster in Gerontechnology research and design.

The Gerontechnology Symposium held at the Monash University in Malaysia was a great succes! The symposium attracted great attention in Malaysia, which is a relatively young country. Around 200 people participated in this one-day symposium, including academics/researchers, industry practitioners, government and NGOs from the Asian region (Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong). Professor Yeh-Liang Hsu, Editor-in-Chief of Gerontechnology and IT Director of the International Society for Gerontechnology was invited to give a speech to introduce gerontechnology, its opportunities and challenges. The Gerontechnology Lab of Monash University, chaired by Professor Pei Lee, TEH, the organizer of this symposium, also showcased their research projects in gerontechnology. Researchers in Malaysia also expressed strong interest to the possibility of establishing an ISG Malaysian Chapter.

A new Marie-Curie Innovative Ph.D. Training Program (ITN) funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020 is opening up in the field of ageism. The overall goal of the program is to bridge science and policy in the emerging field of ageism and produce professionals who can fill a variety of positions, along the science-policy continuum. We are seeking 15 excellent early-stage researchers (ESRs) for a 3-year fully funded Ph.D. program in the research areas of: Psychology, sociology, social psychology, political sciences, social work, economy, clinical pharmacy, engineering, design, social networks, geography, nursing, gerontology, gender studies, labor studies, anthropology, law and related fields. The EuroAgeism network has 15 vacancies for highly skilled Ph.D. students. Accepted ESRs will be enrolled in a PhD programme supported by unique training that provides direct experience in policy, health and social care, and multi-disciplinary research. International training schools will be held for the development of transferable skills and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge between ESRs and policy stakeholders. Successful candidates will be paid a highly competitive salary for a period of three years. The EuroAgeism consortium is a €4 million Marie Skłodowska-Curie-Innovative Training Network (ITN) -funded by the European Commission, under the H2020 program and coordinated by Bar Ilan University. The consortium is composed of academic, governmental, non-governmental, inter-governmental, and health and social care organizations. Countries involved in the consortium include Israel, the Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Finland, the U.K., The Netherlands and Belgium.
